Saving Information

Library computers have security in place that prevents users from permanently saving data. Files must be saved to removable media such as a flash drive for future access. The library sells 4 GB flash drives for $10. Library computers do have the capability to burn CDs and DVDs, but you must bring in your own blank media.

Connecting Devices

Patrons are allowed to connect devices such as MP3 players or digital cameras, but vendor software will not be installed. Devices must be capable of functioning either independently with the Windows 7 operating system or from a read-only CD or DVD. Functionality is not guaranteed, and only basic troubleshooting help is provided.

Wireless

The ppl.guest wireless network is available during library hours. No security key is needed, but wireless devices must be 802.11 b/g compatible to use the network. Internet access is filtered, and printing ability is not provided. Wireless users are expected to abide by the library’s Computer & Internet Usage Policy. Wireless internet access AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS DOWN 10 minutes before the library closes.

Computer Classes

The library offers free, basic computer classes for the public. Classes last approximately 90 minutes, and no sign-up is required. Computers may not be available for all participants, but the class demonstrations are projected for easy viewing. Pick up a Computer Lab Schedule or visit the library’s website for more information.

Getting Assistance

Classes are not the only way to learn at the library. Computer Lab Assistants are available outside of class times to provide instruction and help with computer usage. Throughout the library, staff can offer basic assistance and help you find useful resources in the library’s collection.
